The Iraqi General Railway Company, one of the formations of the Ministry of Transport, clarified today, Tuesday, regarding the transportation of crude oil and petroleum derivatives.
The company confirmed in a statement received by "Al-Eqtisad News" that it "is responsible for transporting crude oil and petroleum derivatives, according to government contracts, noting that no breach has been recorded regarding the transport of these derivatives to export ports and others," noting that it "transports crude oil and petroleum derivatives, for the benefit of the Ministry of Oil, from oil fields and refineries to export ports, according to government contracts."
The statement added, "The process of organizing, loading, transporting and unloading these products is carried out in accordance with the procedures of the Ministry of Oil, the General Authority of Customs and Railways," indicating that "oil derivatives are loaded from loading platforms and stamped with three seals: one for the Ministry of Oil, the second for the General Authority of Customs, and the third for the Railways."
The statement continued, "The numbers of these seals are fixed in the shipping papers, and they are not opened until the quantities transported at the export ports are matched, as no breach has been recorded in the transportation process by railway trains," noting that "the company appreciates the role of the security services in preserving national wealth, and their arrest of one of the train drivers, due to his selling of (kerosene) from the fuel tank of the locomotive, in the city of Hillah (the center of Babil Governorate)."
He explained that "the quantities of crude oil transported were not stolen, and therefore the competent judge ordered the launch of the train and the delivery of the fuel shipment to its destination with its three seals," noting that "the company's trains that transport petroleum derivatives are equipped with a tracking and protection system by the railway police that accompany the train, and the company also has authorization from the Ministry of Oil to avoid any tampering with these quantities."
