[size=45]The Ministry of Interior announced the arrest of 4 people accused of smuggling oil derivatives in Baghdad and Basra.[/size]
[size=45]A statement by the ministry stated that “the Fourth Brigade detachments on the Rusafa side arrested (3) suspects and seized their vehicles due to the lack of official papers stating the beneficiary of the loaded petroleum product.”[/size]
[size=45]He added, "A force from the Ninth Brigade arrested an accused person suspected of burning an empty passenger wheel inside one of the oil facilities in Basra Governorate," indicating that "they were placed in detention and the wheels were seized to complete the investigations and present the case papers to the competent judge."[/size]
[size=45]Millions of dollars in damage are caused by the smuggling of oil derivatives from the country, while Iraq incurs huge sums of money as a result, while the relevant authorities indicate a noticeable decrease in these operations by rates of up to 90 percent.[/size]
[size=45]For its part, the Parliamentary Oil and Gas Committee confirmed that Iraq is losing millions of dollars due to oil smuggling operations.[/size]
[size=45]Committee member Ali Al-Lami said, “The oil smuggling operations that take place in various Iraqi cities are costing Iraq very large losses in the millions of dollars, and these operations are backed by gangs in which various influential parties and figures are involved.”[/size]
[size=45]Al-Lami added, “There is a decline in oil smuggling operations, after the strikes directed at these gangs by the security forces, which succeeded in the past periods in thwarting many oil smuggling operations, in addition to uncovering many of these gangs,” adding, “But smuggling operations are still continuing, and this calls for doubling the security effort.”[/size]
[size=45]According to the Energy Police Directorate of the Ministry of Interior, “Oil derivatives smuggling operations have decreased across Iraq by 90% compared to previous years. The Police Directorate has developed proactive and qualitative plans, which were presented to the Minister of Interior and approved. These plans included joint coordination between the Energy Police Directorate and the Intelligence and Investigation Agency to provide us with information on smuggling operations, in addition to information that comes through the hotline.”[/size]
