Warning of a financial crisis due to manipulation of budget tables... and a demand to reveal the facts!

Talk about tampering with the general budget tables has sparked controversy in political and economic circles, amid warnings of dire consequences following the non-public amendments.
Information indicates that there is a difference in the numbers of more than 10 trillion added to the original budget of 211 trillion dinars, while economic experts considered that “tampering with the budget tables is a dangerous matter, considering that final accounts are not submitted.”
Member of Parliament, Sarwa Abdul Wahid, said in a post on the “x” platform, that “talking about the difference in the budget tables that reaches 8 trillion has made it necessary for the presidency of the council to respond to the letter of the Council of Ministers that was sent on July 1st.”
She added that “there is disregard for the matter,” calling for “the formation of a parliamentary committee whose results are presented to the House of Representatives to find out the facts. If the letter of the Council of Ministers is accurate, and there is tampering with the tables, this is a disaster that must not be ignored, and Parliament must not allow itself to be a bridge for the corrupt.”
For his part, economic expert Athir Al-Khafaji warned of the dire financial consequences that could result from manipulating the Iraqi state’s general budget tables, noting that “such practices could lead to an unexpected deficit, loss of resources, and economic instability.”
Al-Khafaji said that “manipulating the budget tables could cause serious financial damage to the Iraqi state. When numbers are changed or manipulated inaccurately, this leads to misestimation of revenues and expenditures.”
He added that “if revenues are estimated higher than reality or expenditures are estimated lower than necessary, this leads to an unexpected budget deficit, forcing the government to resort to loans or urgent and unplanned spending cuts.”
He continued: “Manipulation can hide mismanagement or corruption, leading to inefficient use of available financial resources, and limiting the ability to finance vital projects.”
Al-Khafaji explained that “inaccurate financial planning leads to instability in the economy, which could negatively affect economic growth rates, inflation, and unemployment.”
He explained that “manipulating the budget negatively affects the confidence of investors and international institutions in the state, which may lead to a decrease in foreign investment and an increase in borrowing costs.”
The economic expert continued, “Deliberate manipulation can lead to legal investigations and political accountability, and may destabilize the government or lead to changes in economic policies.”
For its part, the Parliamentary Finance Committee confirmed that the investigation committee is continuing to investigate the circumstances of manipulating the budget tables and the CD, noting that the government has begun working with the tables voted on by the House of Representatives.
Committee member Moeen Al-Kazemi said, “The investigation committee formed by the Parliamentary Finance Committee related to manipulating the budget tables sent by the government to parliament and voted on is still ongoing,” noting that “the investigation was conducted with the Secretary-General of the House of Representatives and the Director of the Office of the Speaker of the House of Representatives.”
He added that “the government has begun working with the tables voted on by the House of Representatives, not those sent by the House.”
In the same context, the representative of the State of Law Coalition, Hussein Ali Mardan, confirmed the continuation of the investigation committee into the circumstances of tampering with the 2024 budget tables.
Mardan said, “Investigations are still ongoing to identify those involved in the manipulation of the budget tables,” adding that “the upcoming sessions will witness the presentation of the final report to the House of Representatives.”
He added, “The committee formed by the House of Representatives will soon finish its work to clarify the truth about the manipulation of the budget tables,” noting that “the investigation is still ongoing within the House of Representatives.”
