Shafaq News/ The "Watan" parliamentary bloc revealed, on Monday, that there is a parliamentary movement to stop the proposed amendment to the law on the foundations of equivalence of university degrees, as it will deprive employees from completing postgraduate studies, stressing the need to keep the law in its current form.

MP for the bloc, Nazim Al-Shabli, told Shafak News Agency, "There are many comments on amending the law on the basis of equivalence of certificates, as it is unfair to students and employees who wish to complete postgraduate studies."

He explained that "the proposed amendment will lead to the cancellation of Article 12 of the law, which allows the employee to study during his work leave balance, and the period of residence will be continuous for nine months for postgraduate studies, master's and doctorate, and it also requires the approval of the Ministry of Higher Education for the employee to complete his studies, and these points make it difficult for employees and prevent many young people from completing postgraduate studies abroad."

Al-Shabli confirmed, "We will collect signatures from members of the House of Representatives to amend the law on the basis of equivalence of certificates in a way that serves employees and postpone its approval until further notice. If the law is not amended, it will be rejected by members of the House of Representatives in tomorrow's session, Tuesday."

He pointed out that "many members of the House of Representatives are interested in amending the law on the basis of equivalence of certificates and returning to the current law, and making study during employment and the period of residence separate and not connected as is the case in the current amendment to the law."
