The advisor to the Iraqi Private Banks Association, Samir Al-Nusairi, confirmed on Monday that the decisions issued by the Council of Ministers and the continuous support, as well as the commitment of the Central Bank, led to achieving results and a qualitative leap in the volume of transactions in electronic payment operations and the use of ATMs.
Al-Nusairi said in a televised interview followed by "Al-Eqtisad News", that the government support directed towards moving the electronic payment file contributed to a noticeable increase in the use of ATM cards, as the number of direct points of sale reached more than 50 thousand points of sale, while it was about 11 thousand points last year, noting that the decisions issued by the Council of Ministers and the continuous support and commitment of the Central Bank led to achieving the results of the amounts processed through the national switchboard last July, as it reached about 2 trillion dinars this year compared to 800 billion during the same month last year.
He added that electronic payment operations at gas stations last July reached 44 billion dinars, compared to 183 million dinars last year, so this qualitative shift in the use of electronic payment cards and the adoption of payment systems in government institutions enhanced the citizen's confidence in these operations.
