    Today, Thursday (August 29, 2024), the leader of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, Ghiath Surji, commented on the statements of his party leaders about regaining power in the Kurdistan Region.
    Surji said in an interview with Baghdad Today, "These statements are a response to the accusations that were leveled against us by the Democratic Party, which reached the point of breaking bones with them, and they used all methods against us."
    He added, "The Patriotic Union has the tools to regain power in the Kurdistan Region and obtain the position of Prime Minister or President of the Region. This is a natural right for every party seeking to participate in any elections, so how about the Patriotic Union?"
    Surji pointed out that "the most important tools that the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan possesses and relies on in the next stage is the failure of the ninth cabinet of the Kurdistan Regional Government formed by the Democratic Party headed by Masrour Barzani. This government failed in terms of security, as Turkey controls large parts of the region's lands, and it failed economically, as there is a stifling financial crisis, and it failed politically, educationally, health-wise, and in terms of services."
    Qubad Talabani, the secretary of the late Iraqi President Jalal Talabani, confirmed yesterday, Wednesday (August 28, 2024), that the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan needs a mass mobilization to bring about change in the Kurdistan Region.
    His media office said, "Talabani chaired a party meeting in the Raparin area in the presence of the member of the Political Bureau and the head of the elections office in the Patriotic Union, Sarkawt Zaki," indicating that "the meeting discussed the political scene and the ongoing preparations for the legislative elections in the Kurdistan Region."
    According to the statement, Talabani stressed “the importance of the upcoming elections, describing them as fateful for the Patriotic Union and the future of the political process in Kurdistan,” considering that “the Patriotic Union is the only political entity that can be relied upon to bring about any change that the masses aspire to.”
    He added that "a large part of the citizens have become convinced that the Patriotic Union has the keys to the equation of the political process and correcting the course of governance in the region," noting that "Kurdistan is on a date with elections whose results no one can falsify as a result of the revision of the voter registry."
    He continued, "We are waiting for fair elections and looking forward to a landslide victory, given the qualifications that the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan enjoys in Kurdistan, Iraq and the region, and the expansion of its popular base day after day," noting that "we are waiting to achieve a landslide victory in Kurdistan that matches what was achieved in the local elections in Kirkuk and other regions."
