The media department of the Council said in a statement that “the Council of Representatives held its ninth session of its second legislative term, the third legislative year of the fifth electoral cycle, headed by Mohsen Al-Mandalawi, Acting Speaker of the Council, and attended by 170 representatives.”
She added, “At the beginning of the session, the Council completed the first reading of the proposed law for the preservation of cultural heritage submitted by the Committee on Culture, Tourism, Antiquities and Media, in order to preserve the Iraqi cultural heritage and provide legal protection for it as a national heritage, and to identify and protect it, recover stolen and smuggled items, and organize the process of selling and acquiring personal cultural property, and in implementation of what is required by international agreements of which Iraq is a member.”
She added, “The Council has begun the first reading of the draft Civil Aviation Law submitted by the Transport and Communications Committee, which aims to ensure the independence of the Civil Aviation Authority and meet the requirements of the Chicago Convention on the Safety and Security of International Civil Aviation in accordance with the latest annexes issued therefrom, and to keep pace with global developments in the field of international civil aviation in its technical and commercial aspects, and to regulate the provisions related to helipads and define the tasks of the Authority.”
She pointed out that “the Council completed the first reading of the draft law to cancel the law ratifying the Economic Unity Agreement between the Arab League countries No. (169) of 1963 submitted by the Foreign Relations Committee, due to the lack of benefit from the Republic of Iraq continuing to join the agreement,” explaining that “the Council postponed reading the report and discussing the draft law amending the second law of the Supreme Hajj and Umrah Authority No. (23) of 2005 submitted by the Endowments and Clans Committee.”
