Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian revealed the reason for choosing Iraq for his first foreign visit after being elected president.
In his first televised appearance, Bazishkian said, “My first choice for foreign travel is Iraq, and the reason is that I wanted to go to Najaf to visit Imam Ali (PBUH).”
In response to this talk, Mohammad Javad Akbarin (a cleric and journalist) wrote in a tweet on Twitter: The president said last night that the destination of his first official trip is to Iraq “for Hajj.”
He added, "Therefore, his trip is personal and he must go at his own expense, not with the government budget and the public treasury."
Earlier reports revealed that Pezeshkian will visit Iraq at the end of September.
Former Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi was preparing to visit Iraq just days before the plane crash that killed him and former Foreign Minister Amir Abdollahian.
