Parliamentary Integrity Committee submits its report on the “theft of the century” to the judiciary

As part of parliamentary moves to support governmental and judicial efforts to prosecute and hold accountable those involved in the “theft of the century,” the parliamentary Integrity Committee announced that it would submit its report on the case to the Iraqi judiciary, which includes new data and information. Member of the parliamentary committee Hamid Al-Shiblawi told Al-Sabah: “Any new evidence available to the committee regarding the theft of the century will be submitted to the judiciary, as the entire file is in the hands of the Iraqi judicial institution,” adding that “the legal procedures that have been carried out since the start of the case were closely monitored by the Integrity Committee.” Al-Shiblawi pointed out that “Iraqi law does not allow the discussion of any specific topic or procedure in the House of Representatives committees when the case is before the judiciary,” explaining that “if new evidence emerges, the Integrity Committee or other parliamentary committees will be able to strengthen the judiciary’s position by submitting reports based on hosting the relevant parties and stakeholders within Parliament.”
