Report..
Al-Sudani's government enters into new tension with the Iraqi people and political forces regarding its promises to end all foreign presence from Iraq, led by American forces, as the US Department of Defense (the Pentagon) denied any plans to withdraw its forces from Iraq, as the ministry's spokesman, Patrick Ryder, said that his country is not prepared to announce specific steps to withdraw American forces from Iraq.
Although the Pentagon denied being informed of any Iraqi decision calling for the withdrawal of its forces from the country, the government remained silent regarding these statements in a move that observers considered a categorical denial of the government’s narrative and its promises to end this presence, while many political forces expressed their annoyance with this issue.
Speaking about this file, former MP Razzaq Al-Haidari called on the Iraqi government to respond to the Pentagon’s statements that confirmed that its forces would not be withdrawn from Iraq.
Al-Haidari said in a statement, “The strategic framework agreement, as confirmed by the Iraqi government, came to oblige the American side to end the presence of its forces in Iraq, but these statements are always denied by the Washington government through statements,” indicating that “these statements have raised a lot of suspicion and doubt about the government’s seriousness in ending this file.”
He wonders about “the benefit of the work of the committees that were tasked with ending this presence, which took a long time of negotiations between the two sides,” calling on “the Iraqi government to be honest with its people regarding this important and fundamental issue.”
“The political forces, parliament and government must respond to these statements as soon as possible, as they are unacceptable and dangerous,” he added, noting that “these statements categorically deny the government’s narrative of ending this presence.”

In addition, a report by the British newspaper The National confirmed that after announcing an agreement on the withdrawal of US forces by the end of 2026, it appears that a number of US officials are still stressing the need for a military presence under the pretext of ISIS.
The newspaper quoted in a translated report, an American military official who refused to reveal his identity, saying in a special statement that "the United States is likely to retain significant military capabilities to fight extremists in Iraq after the end of the coalition against ISIS in the coming years," according to his claim.
“The departure of coalition forces does not necessarily change the military’s ability to continue operations,” the official added after news of the withdrawal announcement by the end of 2026 emerged. “I would be very surprised if they withdrew the entire American presence.” The two sides were scheduled to announce the deal last August, but it was postponed after an attack on American forces at the Ain al-Asad air base in western Iraq.
The report indicates that “there are about 2,500 soldiers in Iraq and 900 in neighboring Syria under the pretext of fighting ISIS since 2014, where the extremist organization seized about a third of the two countries, but it was defeated regionally in Iraq at the end of 2017 and in Syria in 2019, but thousands of fighters from the American army are still deployed in the region despite the defeat of the terrorist organization several years ago.”
Washington confirmed in a statement yesterday that it is not prepared to announce any specific steps to withdraw US forces from Iraq. End 25 min
