    Baghdad Today - Translation
The head of the Economic Committee at the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Musa Alizadeh Tabatabaei, revealed today, Monday (September 23, 2024), the level of his country's influence in Iraq, while stressing its interaction with all segments of the people.
Tabatabaei said in a press interview translated by Baghdad Today, "Our influence in Iraq is more than a political and security influence, but rather a popular and cultural influence," adding, "During the visit of Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian to Iraq, we achieved accomplishments that exceeded what we had imagined."
He added that "President Pezeshkian's visit to Basra and the Kurdistan Region has largely neutralized the negative propaganda that was being conducted against Iran," noting that "we are not only linked to certain groups in Iraq, but we interact with all segments of the Iraqi people."
Tabatabaei continued, "Iraq's debts to Iran have decreased recently," stressing, "Iraq's debts to Iran have not increased."
The Iranian Foreign Ministry official considered that Pezeshkian's visit to Iraq is equivalent to several years of public and cultural diplomacy, noting that the results of this visit will become clear in the coming days.
Regarding the importance of Pezeshkian's visit to Basra, Tabatabaei stressed that "Basra is actually the second most important city in Iraq in terms of economy, politics, tribe and population, and it is the closest province in Iraq to Iran, as we see a lot of movement between the people of Khuzestan and Basra, and the distance between Basra and Abadan by car is less than 30 minutes, and often the people of Basra do their shopping in the Arvand Free Zone and then return to their place of residence, and this indicates that there are very good foundations for economic and cultural activities between Iran and Basra."
The Iranian president visited Iraq earlier this month, and his visit lasted three days, including the capital Baghdad, Karbala, Najaf, and the Kurdistan Region (Erbil and Sulaymaniyah), and then he concluded it with a visit to Basra Governorate in southern Iraq.
