Baghdad/Al-Masala: Iraq stressed the protection of sea lanes for transporting oil through the waters of the Arabian Gulf, amid increasing warnings of the expansion of the war between Israel and Iran.
Iraqi party leaders fear Israeli strikes that may include vital facilities in the country, in conjunction with speculation that Israel may strike the Iranian oil refinery in Abadan, adjacent to the city of Basra, and the Bushehr reactor.
Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein continues his meetings in Washington with officials and diplomats in the US administration, regarding the escalation of tension in the Middle East.
    Securing oil passages
Hussein said, according to a press release, that he discussed with American officials the necessity of protecting sea passages to ensure the export of Iraqi and Gulf oil by securing these passages.

On Thursday, Hussein met with US Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs Barbara Leaf, US Under Secretary of State for Management Ambassador John Bass, and Energy Affairs Officer Ambassador Jeffrey Payette.
The Iraqi minister stressed that Iraq and the United States of America agreed on the need for calm and the keenness of all parties to prevent the expansion of the circle of conflict in the Middle East region, and to make the necessary efforts to end the conflict and spare the region the risk of escalation. Iraq renewed its call for a ceasefire in the region and to resolve crises through diplomatic means, and the importance of making efforts to help the displaced Lebanese and provide support to end the humanitarian crisis.
According to the Iraqi Foreign Ministry statement, the United States expressed its support for the Iraqi government's efforts to contain the crises.
Iraqi sources reported that the Coordination Framework Alliance discussed what was said to be a security report on dozens of targets to be struck and assassinated by Israel in Iraq.
An Iraqi leader, who preferred not to be named, said that security reports had reached government agencies and party leaders that the Iranian response would have accelerated the Israeli targeting of Iraqi sites and facilities.
