    Economy News - Follow-up
Baghdad Provincial Council revealed that about 800 private generators out of about 3,000 have adhered to the council’s instructions regarding the official pricing, as part of the first phase of a campaign it launched in this field.
The head of the Oil and Gas Committee in the Council, Safaa Al-Mashhadani, explained in an interview with “Al-Sabah” followed by “Al-Eqtisad News”, that the committee held a meeting with the Generators Syndicate, which is an unofficial body that includes a number of representatives of generator contractors, in order to establish mechanisms and decisions related to their work in the capital, pursuant to a campaign it launched to follow up on the extent of compliance with the official pricing set by the Council for the current month of October, which amounts to 14,000 dinars for the golden line and 11,000 dinars for the regular line.
He pointed out that it was agreed to set a fine of 5 million dinars against the contractor who owns a share of (kerosene) and does not adhere to the mentioned price, and 2 million dinars against those who do not have a share, in addition to obligating the administrative units to submit monthly reports on the ampere prices and to conduct field tours to verify with citizens the price in their areas, noting that the aforementioned campaign was launched by conducting field tours on about 3,000 generators distributed among different areas of Baghdad.
Al-Mashhadani confirmed that 800 contractors have committed to the council’s official instructions regarding pricing, out of 3,000 in the first phase, after taking pledges from them and imposing various fines, while the rest of the generators are being monitored within this campaign until their total number exceeds 20,000 in the capital, Baghdad.
In the same context, Al-Mashhadani stated that the committee held a meeting with the Ministry of Electricity to agree on a formula for cooperation between officials of the electricity departments in the regions and administrative units, given the large disparity in the hours of supply between one region and another, and thus the difficulty of determining a unified price for an ampere. He indicated that the price of an ampere in the areas of northern Baghdad and Mahmoudiyah reaches 6,000 dinars, while in Abu Ghraib it is 8-10,000. He pointed out that the administrative units confirmed to the committee that there are areas where the hours of power outages range between 12 and 14 hours, which requires the ministry to follow up on operators in the electricity departments.
In addition, Al-Mashhadani confirmed that the committee agreed with the Ministry of Oil to reduce the price of fuel for those covered by government equipment, stressing at the same time that the generators file requires the intervention of higher authorities such as the Council and the Secretariat of Ministers to make binding decisions for all relevant departments, which is what the Council is currently seeking after obtaining the necessary approvals.
