    Baghdad:
The Ministry of Interior announced the closure of 69 projects that violate environmental conditions. The spokesman for the Ministry of Interior, Brigadier General Muqdad Miri, said in a statement: “Based on the directives of the Prime Minister and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, and the Minister of Interior, Abdul Amir al-Shammari, and under the supervision of the Director of Civil Defense, the Environmental Police Directorate affiliated with the Civil Defense Directorate continues to monitor industrial and commercial activities that violate environmental conditions and are not licensed by the Ministry of Environment, in accordance with Environmental Protection and Improvement Law No. 27 of 2009,” stressing that “Civil Defense Law No. 44 of 2013 is being activated, which stipulates the closure of activities that violate Civil Defense instructions.”
Miri added that "(69) violating projects have been closed since the start of the campaign on 10/15/2024, until today, as a site inspection was conducted on (97) projects, in cooperation with the Ministry of Environment, including brick factories and multi-activity industrial factories. The Directorate also strengthened its campaigns in sanitary landfill sites to combat waste burning."
Miri continued that "this step comes within the framework of efforts aimed at reducing environmental pollution in the air, water and soil," indicating that "the Directorate urged the owners of violating factories to adhere to environmental conditions, by preventing the use of black oil in brick factories and installing smoke filters to reduce pollution," explaining that "the campaign is ongoing by the Environmental Police, in coordination with the Ministry of Environment to reduce environmental pollution."[/size]
