The Iraqi Ministry of Immigration confirmed that the Iraqi government will continue its work to embrace the Lebanese fleeing the war in their country, revealing a long-term plan to deal with them.

The official spokesman for the ministry, Ali Abbas Jahagir, stated to the official gazette today, Wednesday, that a government plan has been completed that "includes three scenarios: short, medium, and long-term, to be implemented according to the periods that the Lebanese guest will spend in the country, starting with containing them and receiving them directly from the land and air ports."

Last week, the Iraqi embassy in Damascus revealed the arrival of 11,000 Lebanese refugees to Iraqi territory by land and air, noting that the Ministry of Migration and religious shrines in Najaf and Karbala assumed responsibility for them upon their arrival at the border, and the Iraqi government undertook to provide health, material and moral support to the rest of the refugees in Syria and rent hotels for them.

Jehaker pointed out that "emergency places will be prepared to accommodate the Lebanese urgently upon their arrival, and their residence procedures will be facilitated and their conditions will be monitored through committees formed in coordination with the relevant ministries and authorities," explaining that "if the Lebanese guests stay in Iraq for a longer period, long-term measures will be taken in light of this that are consistent with the general regional situation of the region, which is to build (camps) for them until their crisis in their country is resolved, while providing all their daily needs."

With the start of the Israeli military escalation in southern and eastern Lebanon and the Beirut suburbs, hundreds of residents of the targeted areas headed north to escape the fires of war, and a large number of them continued beyond the borders towards Syria.

The Lebanese have sought refuge in many countries, most notably Syria, Iraq, Iran, Egypt, and the Gulf States, some of whom went there to receive treatment.

From the first moment of launching the war on southern Lebanon, Iraq officially announced its support for Lebanon and the Lebanese, and the Iraqi Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, directed the sending of aid and medical teams to Beirut, the cancellation of entry visas for the Lebanese and the opening of the borders to them, the opening of guest houses and processions and the preparation of places for their residence. The Najaf Governorate submitted a proposal to the official authorities stipulating the appointment of Lebanese in public jobs on the state staff.
