    Baghdad Today - Erbil
Kurdish politician Luqman Hussein warned, on Tuesday (November 5, 2024), of the repercussions of the delay in forming the Kurdistan Regional Government, indicating that it will push regional and international parties to intervene.
Hussein said in an interview with Baghdad Today, "The only thing that hinders the formation of the Kurdistan Regional Government is the dispute over positions, especially the position of the presidency of the region," noting that "the dispute lies in the Patriotic Union's demand for the position of the presidency of the region, and the Kurdistan Democratic Party is clinging to this position."
He added, "If this dispute continues, we will see regional and even international interventions in the government formation file within the region."
Hussein revealed that "there are movements by the American ambassador and her meeting with the leaders and leaders of the Kurdish parties, which is a prelude to international and regional interventions, because it is clear that the process of forming the government will take a long time."
Political researcher Ali Ibrahim had previously expected that regional countries would have a major influence on the path to forming the next Kurdistan government for many reasons.
Ibrahim said the reasons are related to its national security and economic interests, adding that Turkey, for example, seeks to ensure that the government in the region does not pose a threat to its security, especially with regard to Kurdish movements within its borders such as the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK). Therefore, it prefers the Kurdistan Democratic Party to have the greater influence because it is less in conflict with its policies, while it views the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan with suspicion.
