Iraq heads the Asia and Pacific Group at the United Nations

presided over Iraq 's UN ambassador in New York Mohammad Ali Hakim , the first meeting of the permanent representatives of the Group of Asia and the Pacific at the United Nations, noting that Iraq recognizes the beginning of the month of May of this presidency this group.
Said a Foreign Ministry statement to, that " the Asia-Pacific Group , which was known as the Group of Asian up to 2011, which is the second - largest bloc of member states at the United Nations, which includes 53 countries , accounting for 27.5% after the African Group."
The statement noted that "for the group three seats on the UN security Council , including permanent seat to the People 's Republic of China and the two non - permanent members . "
