    On Wednesday, the head of the Media and Communications Commission, Ali Al-Muayyad, affirmed Iraq’s commitment to international media conventions, noting that the current Iraqi government attaches great importance to supporting and developing media institutions.

    Al-Moayad said during his participation in  an expanded workshop on the digital age, freedoms and democracy in [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] at the [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] headquarters in Paris, “ [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] is committed to international media conventions, and the Commission’s endeavor to restore the country’s pioneering role in the region by promoting freedom of expression, pluralism, and combating misinformation.”


     
    Al-Muayad reviewed "the great development that the media scene witnessed in [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] after 2003, as the number of media outlets increased clearly, and all social components became represented by effective media outlets."

    He explained that "the current Iraqi government pays great attention to supporting and developing media institutions," noting the "recent approval to establish a specialized media city in accordance with international standards."

    He stressed "the importance of combating the misuse of social media to spread hate speech and incitement to violence," pointing to the Authority's "efforts to send millions of text messages annually to enhance community security and combat extremism."

    The head of the Communications and [url=https://www.alsumaria.tv/entity/101650141/%D9%87%D9%8A%D8%A6%D8%A9 %D8%A7%D9%84%D8%A5%D8%B9%D9%84%D8%A7%D9%85/ar/]Media Commission[/url] stressed that “information and communication technology has enhanced rapprochement and communication between peoples,” calling for “adapting this technology to serve humanity and reduce the risks that threaten it.”
