Baghdad/ Iraq TradeLink: Iraqi Agriculture Ministry is planning to reach self-sufficiency in wheat and barley production in the coming year.
The sources pointed that the production of the previous years sufficed only 50% of the local needs, due to the occupation of Da'ish (ISIS) vast productive areas in Diala, Nineveh, Kirkuk and Salahal-din provinces, as well the non-payment of the government of the farmers' debts for the last three years.
The ministry is planning to produce 4.5 million tons of wheat, which are the actual Iraqi needs due to the possibility of utilizing the liberated province in the coming production .
