    [rtl]Data showed that banks in the European Union closed 9100 branches and eliminated about 50,000 employees last year as a growing number of customers began to use electronic banking operations and kept rates at very low levels.[/rtl]
     
    [rtl]The number of bank branches in the European Union fell to 189,000 by the end of 2016, a drop of 4.6 percent from the previous year, the European Banking Association (EBU) said.[/rtl]
     
    [rtl]According to the data, the number of workers has reached the lowest level since 1997, reaching about 2.8 million people.[/rtl]
     
    [rtl]Since 2008, the total number of bank branches closed across the European Union has reached 48,000, a decline of more than 20 percent. But the banks accelerated the closures last year compared with 2015 when the proportion of branches that closed down 3 percent.[/rtl]
