The Ministry of Electricity said on Tuesday that the payment of electricity bills by beneficiaries, whether citizens or businesses, has risen from 30% in the past years.
"The payment of electricity bills this year amounted to about 30 percent, which is higher than the previous years, which did not exceed 12 percent," ministry spokesman Musab al-Mudar told Asharq Al-Awsat.
The teacher explained that "the reason for the high payments of electricity bills came after the tightening of procedures by the electrical power departments, which is a warning to the two houses to pay, and then cut off the power supply."
The teacher pointed out that "so far do not exceed the levies of electric power in the federal state budget annually 600 million dollars."
The southern provinces witnessed during the past days mass demonstrations against the electricity privatization project currently being put forward by the government. The province of Dhi Qar declined after the pressure of the people and injuries in the ranks of protesters from the people of the province.
