[ltr]Financial Times: Alwaleed bin Talal rejects settlement with Saudi authorities Qqweqr[/ltr]
    [ltr]Follow up of Mawazine News[/ltr]
[ltr]Prince Alwaleed bin Talal, who is being held by Saudi Arabia on corruption charges, refuses to settle with the authorities in return for his release, a British newspaper reported.[/ltr]
[ltr]According to the Financial Times, the Saudi prince is still insisting on non-settlement, unlike many princes who accepted a financial settlement in exchange for their freedom.[/ltr]
[ltr]In a precedent not seen in the history of Saudi Arabia, the authorities on November 4 arrested more than 200 individuals, including 11 emir, 4 current ministers and dozens of former businessmen, on charges of corruption, and later released many of them.[/ltr]
[ltr]Saudi Arabia aspires to nearly $ 100 billion in corruption arrests.[/ltr]
[ltr]The kingdom froze bank accounts for individuals in an anti-corruption campaign, while the Saudi Monetary Agency (SAMA) said the freeze did not include subsidiaries.[/ltr]
[ltr]Bin Talal's domestic and foreign investments have been negatively affected, with the length of detention approaching the end of his second month, while the executive departments of his companies confirm that they operate as usual.[/ltr]
[ltr]Bin Talal has helped many financial and banking institutions over the past years, notably Citigroup during the 2008 global financial crisis.[/ltr]
[ltr]"But now, when the Saudi prince lives in time of need, no one has publicly offered his help, as billions of dollars of his wealth have been written off."[/ltr]
[ltr]Forbes newspaper reported that since the arrest of its president, the value of Kingdom Holding has fallen by 20 percent, to $ 8.5 billion, while its total size has shrunk to $ 16 billion.[/ltr]
[ltr]But a bank close to Prince Talal, 62, said the latter might resort to a deal with the Saudi authorities, in the event of continued detention, and its impact on investment more, according to the newspaper.[/ltr]
[ltr]The Saudi monarch, King Salman bin Abdul Aziz, issued a royal order earlier this month to form a committee to investigate corruption cases, chaired by Crown Prince Prince Mohammed bin Salman.[/ltr]
