    [ltr]On Friday, President Fuad Masoum addressed the Iraqi people, officers and soldiers of the National Army and armed forces on the occasion of the 97th anniversary of the establishment of the Iraqi army.[/ltr]
    [ltr]The text of the speech of the President of the Republic, according to a presidential statement:[/ltr]

    [ltr]On this sixth day of January, we celebrate with pride and honor the 97th anniversary of the establishment of our great Iraqi army, which along with all the formations of our heroic armed forces, has been one of the greatest national achievements in the contemporary history of our country and our people. Raised the appreciation, admiration and solidarity of all the peoples of the world.[/ltr]
    [ltr]It is rare for a modern army to regain its self-confidence with such strength, speed and efficiency as our Iraqi army and all our armed forces did, as demonstrated by the firm and decisive response against the terrorists and the remnants of the former regime.[/ltr]
    [ltr]In mid-2014, many at home and abroad thought that our army would no longer be that wall protecting the homeland and the citizen against dangers, especially a terrorist threat that would appeal to people from all over the world. But it is our army that has refuted this illusion by purging every inch of Iraq from the desecration of terrorism through a series of exciting victories which, through the high professional competence it demonstrated and the high morale of its fighting, restored not only its self-confidence but also the confidence of its people and the entire world as a guarantee for the protection of unity and sovereignty. Iraq and the dignity of all Iraqis.[/ltr]
    [ltr]And without a doubt, those victories would not have been achieved without wrapping our people with all its components and spectra around our armed forces in all their formations from the national army, the air force, the anti-terrorist apparatus, the air force, the federal police, the popular crowd, the Peshmerga forces, the security apparatuses and all the branches and supporting formations of engineering, medical and media support, logistics and volunteers. From the tribes and civilians in the liberated areas, and all the citizens who contributed in any way to achieve this eternal victory.[/ltr]
    [ltr]The passing of this cherished occasion now calls upon us to emphasize the importance of the cohesion of our armed forces and citizens, who have been a solid supporter of their armed forces in defending Iraq, its security and its freedom. We also reiterate the need to complete the construction and development of our armed forces, especially since the stability of our country at this difficult stage depends on it as the shield for the protection of the homeland and the achievements of the democratic experiment. We emphasize the importance of moving ahead with the plans to build a strong Iraqi army with a military doctrine whose aim is to serve the people, the public interest, protect sovereignty and support reconstruction, a national and professional defense army that belongs to all of Iraq and has no place for narrow loyalties and is capable of protecting citizens without any discrimination. To limit the weapons to the state and to deter any excesses on the authority of the state and the law.[/ltr]
    [ltr]On this national occasion, I extend my warmest congratulations to all Iraqis, especially to the heroes of the army and the armed forces, and to the support of the international community and its support for our army and armed forces.[/ltr]
    [ltr]A tribute to the martyrs of our righteous people who have sacrificed lives for the freedom of their country and the liberation of their people and humanity from the scourge of terrorism.[/ltr]
