Environment Minister Nizar Amidi confirmed that there is coordination with local governments to implement programs and projects that contribute to environmental improvement in the governorates, while noting that infrastructure for environmental improvement is considered one of the government’s priorities.
Nizar Amidi said, in a statement, that "the environmental departments in Baghdad and the governorates and the environmental protection and improvement councils continue to interact and communicate with local governments and governors to support local administrations in how to prepare and implement programs concerned with environmental improvement."
Amedi pointed out that “infrastructure for environmental improvement is considered one of the priorities of the federal government, in order to confront the challenges resulting from climate change, desertification and drought,” stressing that “these efforts aim to achieve tangible improvements in the quality of the local environment and reduce the negative effects of these challenges.”
Aamidi stressed “the Ministry’s interest in developing environmental awareness among local and secondary administrations, in addition to employees and cadres working in the governorates,” noting that “activating environmental improvement programs comes due to the urgent need for these projects at the current stage.”
“There are ongoing efforts to strengthen local capacities and develop environmental knowledge,” he noted.
The Minister of Environment explained that "environmental awareness constitutes an important aspect of the ministry's work, as it contributes to changing behavior and developing the methodology of environmental work in local administrations, state institutions, and the private sector."
He stressed "the importance of partnership between all governmental and private agencies to improve the environmental reality in Iraq," expressing his "optimism that these partnerships will lead to positive and sustainable results."
