    - US President Donald Trump on Sunday warned the Syrian government that the United States was "fully equipped" to strike again if new chemical attacks were carried out.

The warning came after the United States, France and Britain struck three Syrian targets in response to an alleged chemical attack in the town of Douma a week ago. Syria

denies the use of any chemical weapons, and says the opposition fabricated the attack. The Security Council rejected a vote by Russia condemning the military strike led by the United States.

The military strike represents the strongest attack against President Bashar al-Assadby western nations seven years after the civil war.

There was a sharp debate at the UN Security Council emergency meeting on Saturday, when Russia sought to condemn US-led air attacks.

The Russian envoy to the United Nations, Vasily Nipinzia, read a letter from Russian President Vladimir Putin, accusing the Allies of "blatant contempt" in carrying out the attack without waiting for the results of the investigation into the alleged chemical attack.
The inspectors of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) are currently visiting Damascus and are expected to enter the weekend.
Russia's envoy accused the United States, Britain and France of "barbarism" and "gross contempt for international law."

US envoy Nicky Hayley described the strikes as "justifiable, legal and proportionate."
"I spoke to the (American) president this morning and said if the Syrian regime uses this poison gas again, the United States is ready," she said.
"When our president paints a red line, our president will apply this red line," she said.

Hayley said the United States and its allies had given diplomacy "an opportunity after another," but Russia continued to use its veto power against the UN resolution.

"We can not stand by and allow Russia to destroy all international standards and not to respond to the use of chemical weapons," she said.

"The United States, France and Britain are liars, losers and hypocrites who are using the United Nations to impose your policy of intervention and colonialism," said Bashar al-Jaafari, Syria's permanent representative to the United Nations.

Only Russia and China voted in favor of Russia's decision among 15 council members.

    What did President Trump say?
President Donald Trump, on his Twitter account on Saturday, praised the strikes and said they were "carried out perfectly". He thanked the United Kingdom and France.

His words "carried out the mission" echoed the warning of Ari Fleischer, White House press secretary to the administration of former President George W. Bush.

Trump announced the military strikes on Friday night, saying the three allies "mobilized their appropriate strength against barbarism and brutality."
