The political circles in the province of Basra described the round of oil licenses, which the Ministry of Oil announced recently as "illegal", and considered it "a threat to the oil wealth of Basra and Iraq in general."

A member of the oil and energy committee in the federal parliament MP Jamal al-Muhammadawi said in a statement to life that "the Ministry of Oil recently committed several legal and constitutional irregularities in the granting of new oil licenses," calling them to "review their plans in the field of investment during the coming period."

He pointed out that "there are a lot of mistakes that marred previous licensing rounds," stressing that "the Committee notified the new ministry that it should not fall in the same mistakes, so licensing rounds do not pose a threat to the oil wealth, but the ministry made the mistakes of the previous and followed the same approach.

He pointed out that the last round was held in the absence of the legislative role of the parliament, which is supposed to get the rounds of approval to become valid, which is a clear violation of the constitution requires accountability of the perpetrators.

In another context, the Chairman of the Energy Committee in the Council of Basra Mujib al-Hassani that "the companies that won the previous rounds, committing several violations of the law, and justify this by obtaining previous government approvals, except for some items, which affected the level of benefit from these tours."

He stressed that "the oil companies operating in the province of Basra did not comply with the Iraqi investment law in terms of the operation of 80 percent of the local labor, although the law provides for and confirms it."
