The State Department has accused the Iranian regime of "financing terrorism and foreign wars" throughout the Middle East, while the Iranian people are suffering from an economic crisis.

"Iran has spent more than $ 16 billion to support Assad and its agents in Iraq and Yemen, giving $ 700 million a year to Lebanese Hezbollah guerrillas," a senior State Department official told a news conference.

"I think it gave $ 4 billion in credit to the Assad regime," he said.

"All of these revenues are fortified for war, Iran is spending billions of dollars in other countries and destabilizing these important countries in the Middle East, as I said, whether in Syria, Lebanon, Iraq or Yemen, and this has consequences of the second and third degrees."

"There is no doubt that the money that I used to support the Assad regime has contributed to the refugee crisis, the worst since World War 2. So when we link things that are going on in the Middle East with the issues of violence, bloodshed and unrest, Stands behind many of them; so we try to deprive them of the revenues that allow them to implement their revolutionary and ideological ambitions. "

"The Iranian regime gave priority to its ideological agenda instead of the well-being of the Iranian people, which pushed Iran into an economic spiral," the State Department official said. .

"We know that Iran is using its economic revenues to finance terrorism," he said, adding that "no country in the world is sponsoring terrorism any more and supporting terrorism than Iran." Our campaign aims to exert maximum economic pressure to deprive Iran of the financial resources it uses to facilitate terrorism.

"What we see in Iran is that this country has enormous wealth, the Iranian regime fills its pockets, and its citizens demand better jobs, economic reforms and more opportunities," he said. US State Department website.

"Much of the money that is not spent on terrorism and foreign wars goes to the regular elite and to the increase in individual wealth, so the weak economy means more than the government does not have the revenue it needs to finance terrorism," he said.
