Danish authorities have imposed the first fine for violating the law banning the wearing of the niqab in public places against a 28-year-old woman, according to media reports.

Police were called to a commercial center in Horsholm, in the northeast of the Nordchilland region, where a young woman and a woman tried to disembark, a policeman told the local Ritzau news agency.

"During the fight Niqab fell, but when we arrived she had re-dressed," the police officer said, adding that the police took a picture of the young woman wearing the niqab and got a recording of the brawl from a shopping center camera.

The young woman said she would receive a fine of 1,000 kronor ($ 156) by mail and asked her either to take off her veil or leave the public place, but she chose to leave.

In a related context in the Danish capital Copenhagen, and Orheos, the second largest cities in the Kingdom, demonstrations against the law, which involved about 1300 people, according to police estimates.

The Danish parliament voted in May to ban the wearing of clothing covering the face in public places, including the veil and burqa.

Major Danish cities have been protesting against the law since it took effect on August 1.
