{International: Al Furat News} Canadian defense and foreign ministers announced on Monday the extension of the functions of the Canadian military training missions in Iraq and Ukraine.
"We have made significant and sustained progress, but we are aware of the need for more work," Canadian Defense Minister Hargit Sagan said at a joint press conference with Secretary of State Christia Fralbade. "Now we must ensure that he can not re-build his capabilities and threaten the security of Iraq."
Until March 20, Canada will retain 250 Special Forces troops in Iraq, tasked with training local security forces, and will maintain several attack helicopters participating in the US-led coalition against Dahesh.
In Ukraine, about 200 Canadian soldiers will continue to provide arms, military engineering services, logistics and medical training to the Ukrainian side until the end of March 2022, where Canada has trained about 11,000 Ukrainian soldiers since 2015.
