A US statement issued "strongly worded" the Iraqi government about the situation in the country.
The Committee on Foreign Relations in the US House of Representatives, called on the Iraqi government to hold accountable anyone who uses force and violence against protesters and journalists and protect the right of the Iraqi people to protest and peaceful assembly.
According to a joint statement by the chairman of the committee Elliot Engel, a Democrat, and Rep. Michael McCall, the Republican Party, calling on the Iraqi government to reverse the decision to cut the Internet in addition to lifting restrictions on social media platforms.
He also called on the Iraqi government to ensure that all political parties, ethnic groups and communities live peacefully in a strong, sovereign and prosperous Iraq.
Since October 25, Iraq has been witnessing a growing wave of anti-government protests, the second of its kind after a wave that began early last month.
The protests were marred by violent clashes that left at least 287 people dead, as well as thousands injured.
