Baghdad / ... NATO Secretary-General, Jens Stoltenberg, confirmed that the terrorist organization ISIS still poses a threat to Iraq despite progress in eliminating it, noting that the alliance is helping the Iraqis to prevent the emergence of this organization again.

During the meeting of representatives of the countries of the Istanbul Initiative for Cooperation with NATO, Stoltenberg said that the partnership with the Gulf countries has become better and more effective, stressing that Gulf security is NATO security.

He stressed the cooperation of the members of the Istanbul Initiative, which includes Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain and the UAE, with NATO, pointing at the same time to the cooperation of both Saudi Arabia and the Sultanate of Oman who are not members of the initiative in the interest of the security of the Gulf region and NATO countries.

For his part, NATO Deputy Secretary General Mircea Geoana talked about cooperation between NATO and Kuwait, saying that "NATO does not conduct military exercises with the Kuwaiti side to enhance its capabilities, but in cyber cooperation and military education."

Gywana stressed that "NATO views the security of the Gulf region as part of the security of the European region and the world," noting that "security cannot be divided."

He talked about the situation of NATO in light of the dispute with the United States, and he said in answer to the question "There is nothing serious about this issue. We are used to having different opinions among the members of the coalition, and this is one of the aspects of democracy. For the past 70 years, we have gone through difficult times." Like the Suez Canal crisis in the sixties of the last century, as well as for the coalition against Iraq, where some members were not happy to participate in this alliance, and even at the present time also in relation to the Syrian crisis.

He added, "NATO is in good health, and I expect it will be able to continue for the next 70 years." He pointed out that "there may be a problem with funding, but our friends in the European Union and Canada have responded positively to the support of the Alliance."

He continued, "Friends in the United States have a good view on this, but our European partners have raised their defense budgets to 130 billion dollars, and is expected to reach 400 billion dollars in 2024."

The regional NATO center was opened in Kuwait in 2017, and the center welcomed more than 1,000 NATO officers and experts for joint training, cooperation and capacity-building. The center works on developing crisis management, cybersecurity, energy security, maritime security, and defense against chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear threats. Finished 2
