The senior advisor at the Ministry of Industry and Trade in Kurdistan, the ministry’s spokesperson, Fathi Muhammad Ali al-Mudaris, said in a press interview, “There are 3566 factories and factories in Kurdistan that include various materials and sectors, and this number is constantly increasing thanks to stability and security.”
He pointed out, "The presence of 1600 Turkish factories and companies in Kurdistan, and this is a good thing. Despite the Turkish manpower, there are local workers, but with a small percentage, the number of which reaches more than 51 thousand workers."
Fathi revealed that "the regional government has plans to establish 11 huge industrial zones and lands have been allocated to them, and currently we are waiting for foreign and Arab developers to cooperate with them to establish them, including Jordanian, Emirati and British companies."
Fathi declared, "the region's arrival to self-sufficiency in some manufactures, such as construction materials such as cement and reinforced iron, and these materials are supplied to the rest of the governorates with a plan to export them to neighboring countries, and for food industries, many factories have been established with high efficiency and can compete with similar foreign goods." .
As for the head of the Foreign Relations Committee in the Kurdistan Parliament, Rebwar Babaki, he indicated that there are some problems accompanying the industry, including the lack of expertise as required and this leads to impeding the development of local industries, the existence of the financial crisis, and thus the lack of financing local industries, and the lack of raw materials for some industries, which makes The region needs to be imported.
He added that despite the presence of Iranian and Turkish expertise, its role is limited and did not lead to building a complete local experience, so the region needs more time to gain foreign expertise and build local expertise to play a pioneering role in the industry through skills.
In turn, Khushwi Muhammad Mahmoud, a businessman and owner of two industrial plants for plastics and motor oils in Erbil, said: “The Ministry of Industry and Trade used to support industrial projects, but it lacked the industrial vision for the region in the support that all industries need, so the industrial sector did not develop. With the exception of some industries such as cement and iron, which are large projects in which the region has achieved self-sufficiency. "
He stressed that "the support currently provided by the government does not reach the level required for the development of industries, in addition to the presence of some problems related to border crossings and import and the absence of laws that strongly support the competition process."

The Kurdistan Regional Government is moving towards establishing 11 huge
industrial zones in cooperation with Arab and international companies, while it revealed the existence of 1,600 Turkish factories and companies in Kurdistan.
Traders and factory owners believe that the Turkish food factories in Kurdistan depend on Turkish manpower, and have only used very little local labor, and this is why these factories did not affect the absorption of unemployment in the Kurdistan region.
