Baghdad/ Firas Adnan
The political forces are waiting for the Sadrist movement and the coordination framework to reach an agreement on the next stage, with fears that neither of them will succeed in forming the government in isolation from the other, while expectations indicate the possibility of such rapprochement after the election results are approved, after an agreement to respect the judicial decisions related to electoral appeals.
The Sadrist movement won first place in the elections that took place last month with 73 seats, and it speaks of being the most numerous parliamentary bloc and confirms its intention to form a national majority government in coordination with allies from other components.
On the other hand, the coordination framework that objects to the election results finds that it is the most numerous bloc and says that more than 90 winning candidates will join it.
Sources close to the Sadrist movement told Al-Mada that "the tweet of the leader of the Sadrist movement, Muqtada al-Sadr yesterday, ended all the controversy regarding returning to consensus, as he appeared insisting on moving towards the majority."
And the sources added, "The political body of the movement will abide by what was stated in al-Sadr's position, and negotiations will be conducted within the framework of forming the majority in cooperation with blocs with whom we agree in the national approach, in order to secure the approval of at least 166 deputies to pass the government."
In addition, the leader of the Victory Alliance, Aqeel Al-Rudaini, said, in an interview with Al-Mada, that "the exchange between the Sadrist movement and the coordination framework since the end of the elections is normal as a result of the political movement and the race to form a government."
Al-Rudaini is not afraid of “the statements exchanged between the two parties,” and considered them “an expression of a difference of views,” denying “the existence of a personal conflict between Al-Sadr and any of the leaders of the coordination framework.”
And he talks about “an expected rapprochement that will happen soon, which could culminate in coordination and agreement to form the government, after the election results are approved.”
Al-Rudaini believes that “the progress in forming the government will only happen with the two poles of the Shiite house, which are the coordination framework and the Sadrist movement, and in the absence of one of them, we will not be able to name the next prime minister.”
He stressed, "A number of simple points are still stuck between the two parties," pointing out "the possibility of it being resolved within a few days, and then announcing this agreement."
Al-Rudaini continues, "The tweets of the leader of the Sadrist movement, Muqtada al-Sadr, as well as the demonstrations and the positions of the coordination framework may increase their impact day after day, but in the end there will be agreement and consensus within the Shiite political house on the form of the government and its head."
And he added, "Everyone is waiting for the appeals before the courts regarding the election results, the possibility of some changes, and the judicial decision will be respected by all parties."
Al-Rudaini stated, "The final statement about the size of the political blocs is postponed until after the Federal Supreme Court ratifies the results, and today we are still in the stage of considering appeals from the electoral judiciary, and therefore everything is subject to change."
He warned, "The judicial decision regarding the appeals will be in light of the evidence presented. If the objectors were able to provide what supports their claim, the judiciary will rule in their favour, but if there is no convincing evidence, the results will be included as they are."
Al-Rudaini continues, “Those who question the results do not directly accuse the Electoral Commission, but rather talk about cyber interference that contributed to changing the results and presented what they have to all relevant authorities.”
And he indicated, "The judiciary will deal with this evidence in accordance with the law, and if it is verified that a violation has occurred, it will go to manual counting and sorting of the contested stations, or it will delete results that occurred in violation of the law."
Al-Rudaini went on to say, “Everyone’s duty is to make the electoral process a success, and for its outcomes to be real, reflecting the real reality, and this success means protecting the political and democratic process in Iraq.”
For his part, a member of the Azm Alliance, Muhammad Nuri Al-Abed Rabbo, said in an interview with Al-Mada that "the picture is still unclear regarding the alliances and the form of the next government."
Al-Abed Rabbo continued, "The Kurdish and Sunni forces are still on their position, and they cast the issue of choosing the prime minister on the Shiite consensus, and they will not be a party to this conflict, but rather part of the solution and calm."
He stressed, "The differences within the Sunni household are less severe, as there are many common points, especially in the issue of the liberated areas and their reconstruction, as well as the case with detainees and the disappeared. As for resolving the position of Speaker of Parliament, it is still under discussion."
Al-Abed Rabbo finds that “the Shiite political conflict between the Sadrist movement and the coordination framework has negative effects on the entire political process, and we are waiting today for them to agree with each other either completely or for a front to go with its consent to the opposition.”
Al-Abed Rabbo concluded that “the winning Sunni forces in the elections will not be part of the opposition, and they want to participate in the government, but they will not stand with one party at the expense of the other.”
The Kurdistan Democratic Party had made more than one statement, in which it confirmed that it stands at the same distance from all political forces, calling on the Shiite blocs to agree on the candidate for the prime minister.
