The head of the Kurdistan Regional Government, Masrour Barzani, confirmed, on Friday, that the threat of ISIS has become real to the lives of the Kurdish-populated areas outside the administration of the region, after an attack carried out by the organization’s elements on a village in the vicinity of the disputed town of Makhmour in Nineveh, which left victims and wounded among the people and the Peshmerga forces. .

Barzani said in a statement, of which “Nass” received a copy of it, (December 3, 2021), “With deep regret and sadness, and following the attack by ISIS terrorists on the village of Khader Jija in the foothills of the Qara Jokh Mountains, a number of citizens and the heroic Peshmerga were martyred, while a number of others were wounded, As ISIS terrorists have become a real threat to the lives of the people of the Kurdistan regions outside the administration of the region.”
He added, "This requires strong and tight cooperation between the Peshmerga, the Iraqi army and the international coalition as soon as possible, to proceed with taking the necessary measures to end the growth of ISIS terrorists and attempts to organize their ranks, stop their attacks and brutal attacks, and protect the lives of the Peshmerga and the residents of those areas."
"In this context, the Kurdistan Regional Government affirms its readiness to enhance any cooperation and coordination to combat terrorism and stabilize the situation in Iraq in general, and the areas exposed to ISIS attacks in particular," he said.
On Friday, the local government and the Health Directorate of Erbil Governorate, the capital of the Kurdistan Region, announced that 13 people had died and 5 people were injured during the Makhmour attack.

Late Thursday night, 7 fighters of the Peshmerga forces and 3 citizens were killed by the explosion of a bomb planted by ISIS in a village near Makhmour district of Nineveh Governorate.

"Nass Kord" reporter said that, after ISIS attacked the village of Khadirjija at the foot of Qarachoug Mountain, a force of Peshmerga headed to comb the place, but a bomb planted on their vehicles exploded, killing seven fighters on the spot, including two officers.
On Thursday night, ISIS militants launched an attack on the village of Khadirjija in Makhmour, killing three brothers of the village's mayor and two Peshmerga forces.

Subsequently, the Ministry of Peshmerga in the Kurdistan Regional Government issued a statement in which it said: "The exposure of ISIS elements to the village of Khader Khajija at the foot of Mount Qarachogh led to the death of three citizens. As a result, seven peshmerga were killed."
The ministry added, "Once again, we affirm that coordination and cooperation between the Peshmerga and Defense Ministries and the International Coalition is getting out of this deadlock, and it is necessary to rush to carry out joint military operations against ISIS and not to allow the terrorists to have their own places in the region."
