Foreign Minister Fouad Hussein met Thursday, on the sidelines of his visit to Brussels, with the European Union's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell.
During the meeting, they discussed bilateral relations between the Republic of Iraq and the European Union and ways to strengthen them, as well as current issues on the Iraqi, regional and international arena.
The Minister expressed his thanks for the European Union's support for political stability and economic development in Iraq, through its participation in the international coalition to defeat ISIS.
The Minister touched on the latest developments regarding the political situation in Iraq and the efforts of the political blocs to form a new government, thanking the European Commission for accepting the Iraqi government's invitation to send a mission to monitor the recent Iraqi parliamentary elections, as well as supporting Iraq in facing the outbreak of the Corona pandemic.
And between the utmost importance that Iraq attaches to partnership and cooperation with the countries of the European Union and the steps taken to implement the partnership and cooperation agreement between the two sides by completing the meetings of the sub-committees, as well as holding the meeting of the Cooperation Committee at the level of agents, and Iraq's aspiration to hold a meeting of the Cooperation Council at the ministerial level soon.
