Government denial and reassurance of citizens..in Wasit..a shortage of cooking gas, the first in several years

Wasit / Jabarbajayi
Wasit governorate witnessed last week a clear shortage of cooking gas, the first to appear in the governorate in several years, and the price of a cylinder reached eight thousand dinars for street vendors.
While the emergence of this scarcity coincided with the cold wave and the significant drop in temperatures witnessed in all governorates of the country, local officials denied the existence of a shortage of cooking gas, and stressed that gas is available in quantities that meet the needs of local demand and there is no need for citizens to rush to it, and they stressed not to buy from street vendors. Unlicensed because they are the main reason behind the rumors that talked about the scarcity.
Citizen Salah Abdul-Mahdi Shaker from the city of Kut said in an interview with (Al-Mada) that “the past days witnessed a clear shortage of liquid gas, accompanied by the absence of street vendors in residential areas and neighborhoods, which contributed to the increase in the prices of selling cylinders to reach nine thousand dinars with other sellers.” .
He added, “When contacting a number of gas agents, whom we used to buy from several times, they mentioned that there are queues of cars belonging to the agents standing in front of the government gas filling plant in Kut, but to no avail due to the small amount that reaches the plant daily, which has fallen to less than half. compared to preparing at the beginning of the month.
Abdul-Mahdi states that "this shortage is the first in several years, and we have not seen the like of it for more than ten years, when gas was widely available at the mobile agents and in the existing yards."
Citizen Habib Alwan from Al-Falaiya neighborhood in Al-Kut city said, “There are real indications of a shortage of cooking gas, but this shortage may be due to the source of the supply in the liquid gas unit in the Al-Ahdab oil field, which in turn supplies the government and private laboratories in the governorate with liquid gas.”
He added that "this scarcity may be a partner in the citizen because of his desire to use gas-powered heaters after the failure of the electricity supply and its interruption for long hours per day, up to more than 18 hours per day."
He called on citizens "not to accumulate filled cylinders in their homes, as well as not to believe rumors and to deal objectively with the issue, as positive signs appeared to overcome the scarcity that the citizen was not greatly affected by."
In the meantime, some agents of liquid gas sales yards in the city of Kut attributed the emergence of scarcity to other reasons related to the increase in taxes and fees on them by the municipality, tax and other departments, which prompted them to close those yards.
Ali Al-Daoud says that “most of the gas sales yards officially licensed by the Ministry of Oil and located within the boundaries of the Kut municipality were closed after increasing the annual rent allowance from one million and 200 thousand dinars to reach six million dinars this year, in addition to the escalation of the tax amount.”
He added, "We are obligated to sell according to the official price, which is five thousand dinars per cylinder, but after the large increase in rent and tax, we will be forced to close the yards because we are not allowed to increase the selling price more than the amount specified by the competent authorities."
He pointed out that "several fundamentalist and licensed yards have recently closed their doors for the aforementioned reasons, which leads to the emergence of scarcity because these yards are distributed in residential neighborhoods and are close to citizens' homes, and this is what encouraged street vendors to impose an increase in the price of cylinders, taking advantage of the closure of those yards."
He asserts, "In reality, there is no shortage in the true sense, but there is confusion and with it there are indications of scarcity."
For his part, the Director of the Oil Products Distribution Company in Wasit Shaker Jawad Kazem stated that "there is no such shortage, but a very slight confusion occurred in the preparation for a day or two and it was overcome."
He added, "In order to see the liquid gas supply for mobile agents from the Kut government gas plant, in conjunction with the significant drop in temperatures and the cold wave that hits all of Iraq, we visited the plant, accompanied by the representative of the governor's office, the gas division official and the representative of the inspection division in the branch, and the process of preparing the agents was going smoothly. High".
He pointed out that "the cadres of the gas division in the branch and the administration of the plant continue to work until late times in order to equip the agents with gas and deliver it to the regions through these vendors and at the official price."
The mayor of Kut district, Hamid Khuzaym, stated that “there is no shortage of gas in the city of Kut, and he confirmed that the production of gas plants amounted to nine thousand cylinders per day, at a price of six thousand dinars per cylinder at the street vendors, which is the prevailing price approved by the company.”
He added, "We call on the supervisory authorities in the Oil Products Distribution Company to take their role by holding the street vendors accountable who violate the official price and spread rumors about the shortage of cooking gas, which exhausts the citizens."
And he warned against “exploiting the cold wave by the owners of weak souls who are trying to create a crisis and spread rumors about the lack of gas and then benefit from the increase in the price of the cylinder to eight thousand dinars. He also directed the citizens to submit complaints after taking the agency number written on the wheel in case of violation.”
It is noteworthy that the deputy director of the Gas Laboratories Authority at the General Company for Gas Filling and Services, Saad Atallah, thanked, inspected the company’s laboratories in Wasit last Friday and was informed of the flow of the equipment and the regular provision of gas agents with their daily quotas.
He urged the company's laboratories to extend their work to equip all agents on a daily basis, while monitoring sales prices and monitoring any violation that might occur by street vendors.
