Hakim al-Zamili, the first deputy speaker of the Iraqi parliament, confirmed today, Monday, that the national security detachments will go to the street to monitor the market and will supervise it himself. This came after the Iraqi local markets witnessed, during the past two days, a sudden rise in prices.
Al-Zamili said in a press conference held today, at the parliament building, which was gathered by the Minister of Commerce and security authorities, that "we have confidence in providing two rations of food during the month of Ramadan," noting that "the Ministry of Commerce confirmed the monthly distribution of the ration card items."
He pointed out that "Finance pledged to increase the allocations of the Ministry of Commerce," stressing that "traders manipulating prices will be held accountable."
Al-Zamili continued, "Citizens must report the traders who manipulate prices."
And he considered that “manipulating the power of the citizen is a targeting of the country,” explaining that “from tomorrow the Ministry of Commerce will start preparing the ration card items.”
Al-Zamili's press conference came after he chaired this morning a meeting he described as "important" with the Minister of Commerce, the Head of the National Security Apparatus and the Director of Economic Security regarding the crisis of rising food prices in the markets.
