The trade confirmed its readiness to launch "the second meal of the food basket at the beginning of the month of Ramadan and distribute a third meal in the last third of the holy month," noting that "it has made contracts with national and international sources to secure the items of the food basket."
She added, "The arrival of 8 ships, each loaded with 44,000 tons of rice, will arrive successively from now to the end of Ramadan, with 80,000 tons of sugar, 80 million liters of oil, 80 million cans of tomato paste (a 400-gram can) and 80,000 tons. Legumes include beans, lentils, and crushed chickpeas.
And she stressed that "it is continuing to distribute the items of the food basket and flour within the ration card according to the ministry's plan and based on the decisions of the Council of Ministers," noting that "Iraq's position in preparing the items of the food basket and providing food security is very good, and this is thanks to the strategic plan in which the ministry operates, despite Global prices have risen as a result of the Russian-Ukrainian crisis.
Al-Tijaria denied the news that spoke about "distributing salt within the food basket items, explaining that it supplies 7 items in the food basket, which is the basis for food security for the Iraqi citizen."
Yesterday, the Iraqi government decided to extend the zero customs duties on food commodities for a period of three months.
Cabinet spokesman Hassan Nazim said that "the Russian-Ukrainian war led to a rise in prices, and we are continuing measures to mitigate the repercussions of the economic crisis," noting that "the Minister of Finance assured the Council of Ministers to use emergency funds to confront the economic crisis and serve citizens."
He added that "the rational use of emergency funds enabled the government to meet the challenges during the past period," noting that "the cabinet discussed the challenges facing the government, including the rise in prices."
He pointed out that "the Council of Ministers decided to include retirees whose salaries are 500 thousand dinars or less in the emergency grant," explaining that "the Council decided to extend the zeroing of customs duties on food commodities for a period of three months."
He stressed that "all government institutions were obligated to hand over to the Ministry of Planning the data required to complete the job number project," noting that "the Cabinet voted on a project to automate the work of the Baghdad Municipality with the aim of obtaining funds in an accurate manner."

In the past weeks, the repercussions of rising food prices, such as wheat and edible oil, cast a shadow over the discussions of the Iraqi street and various media outlets.
Former parliament member Falah al-Khafaji said earlier, "The state did not control prices in peacetime, so what about the state of war" taking place in Ukraine and with its repercussions on Iraqi imports.
Al-Khafaji identified the reasons for the rise as “greed” and “war”, which are the two factors that caused the price hike, according to Al-Khafaji, who criticized “the policies of the ministerial cabinet and the concerned ministers.”
The Ministry of Commerce  had previously [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]  that "there are great measures to achieve food security," and that it had discussed "a set of mechanisms to confront the rise in prices, by providing strategic storage and preparing ration items over the next 6 months, and developing emergency plans to confront any rise in prices globally."
The next day,  [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] of Commerce Alaa al-Jubouri said, "The ministry has a plan to achieve food security for citizens and to confront the global rise in foodstuffs imposed by the recent crisis between Russia and Ukraine."
Economist Manar Al -Obeidi [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]  these statements and reassurances as “anesthesia” because “the crisis is greater,” and there is no source of sunflower oil other than Ukraine “except for distant Argentina,” a crisis that “reflects the imbalance in the country’s system and the absence of a strategic stockpile of wheat,” according to Al-Obeidi’s estimation.
