    Economic analyst Basil Al-Obaidi confirmed, on Wednesday, that the loans distributed by governmental and private banks represent the operation of their financial deposits and the achievement of economic benefits, while he presented economic alternatives to address the housing crisis occurring throughout Iraq.

    Al-Obaidi told Al-Maalouma, "The loans distributed by government and private banks are operating for banks, given the presence of very large financial deposits for citizens, which represent less than 30 percent of the total monetary mass." He pointed out that "the housing problem will not be resolved if there are no initiatives from the government, because commercial banks will not lend without financial interest."
    He added, "The economic projects across the country are suspended, so banks are working to use the lending policy with very sure guarantees for citizens, especially state employees and employees of the security services," noting that "the banks are benefiting by obtaining one percent as a result of depositing money from citizens and lending them to other citizens."
    Al-Obaidi continued, "The Iraqi people have other channels to benefit from in the event that the installment or loan is a burden on them, including housing initiatives launched by the Central Bank of Iraq with low interest from 1 to 2 percent only, as well as the Housing Fund, in addition to interest-bearing real estate bank loans.     Regarding the appropriate alternatives, he explained that “the Iraqi state is unable to provide housing units, so it must provide easy loans to citizens and be without interest or symbolic benefits, as well as working to encourage the establishment of housing units,” noting that “the state and through the Central Bank are forced to Increasing housing initiatives to solve the housing problem throughout Iraq
