The Ministry of Planning said, on Wednesday, that the law it submitted to the House of Representatives includes “owning the lands of residential slums for their occupants or compensating them through building alternative housing complexes,” noting that this procedure will depend on the capabilities that will be provided to them and the nature of each slum. .
Ministry spokesman Abdul-Zahra Al-Hindawi said that "the aforementioned law was previously presented to the parliament table in its previous session, and it was not voted on as a result of the early elections," noting that "many deputies of the current session stress the need to pass the law to solve the housing crisis." .
Al-Hindawi added in a statement to the official "Al-Sabah" newspaper, that "the ministry will proceed with the treatments if the law is approved," believing at the same time that "it will be on the voting table after the end of the legislative term holiday."
While Al-Hindawi pointed out that "the ministry intends to conduct an economic and social survey to develop solutions for each slum separately," he explained that "it did not implement a new survey after the campaigns conducted by the Baghdad Municipality to remove slums, but rather adopted the last survey conducted in 2019, which confirmed the presence of about 4000 slums in Baghdad and the provinces.
