Erbil (Kurdistan 24) - The Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Senator Robert Menendez (Democrat, New Jersey), and the top Republican in the same committee, Senator James Risch (Oklahoma), called on US President Joe Biden to provide more support to the Kurdistan Region.
On Monday, the two senators wrote a joint letter to Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, calling on the Biden administration to provide more support to the Kurdistan Region.
The two senators identified in their letter three main issues, the first is the dispute with Baghdad over energy resources in the Kurdistan Region, the second is the discrimination by Baghdad against American energy companies operating in the Kurdistan Region, and the third is related to Iran: its attacks, whether direct or by its proxies, over energy infrastructure, as well as Tehran's interference in Iraqi politics.
The two senators wrote in their letter, "We urgently request the administration to engage the Kurdistan Regional Government and the Iraqi government at the highest levels in dialogues to allow the continuation of energy work in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, whose development is an integral part of Iraq's stability and prosperity, and to strengthen Iraq's independence in the field of energy." energy".
The representative of the Kurdistan Regional Government in the United States, Bayan Sami Abdul Rahman, welcomed the letter of the two senators.
The importance of this message comes from two prominent members of the two major American parties, urging Biden to take more serious action.
