Shafaq News/ At a time when there is no room for Iraq to slide into chaos, the mutual escalation between the "coordinating framework" and the Shiite "Sadr movement" is proceeding to dangerous stages, although the two sides of the crisis seek to avoid its transformation into a civil war, but its continuation raises fears of an exit Things are out of control.
While local and regional calls for calm and dialogue continue, political actors in the scene find the importance of not involving the outside, and the need for the solution to come from within, to ensure a real end to the current crisis.
And in one of the biggest and longest crises that the modern Iraqi regime has known, the country is still in complete political paralysis with a continuous inability to elect a new president of the republic and form a new government, which are outside the wishes of the leader of the Sadrist movement Muqtada al-Sadr, who recently called for the dissolution of the new parliament and the restoration of the new parliament. Holding the elections, after he was unable to form a government despite winning the highest number of parliamentary seats in the October 2021 elections.
In return for al-Sadr’s calls, the coordinating framework continues to push for the reconvening of parliament and the formation of a government headed by Muhammad Shiaa al-Sudani, rejected by the Sadrist movement, which in turn takes the parliament’s vicinity as a starting point for sit-ins and protests that have been going on since July 30.
Despite the foregoing, the coordination framework relies a lot on the results of the visit to Saudi Arabia, conducted by Ammar al-Hakim, head of the Wisdom Movement, which is affiliated with the framework, as well as on any regional or international mediation, which would push the political process in Iraq to stability, which was confirmed by a member of the Council Iraqi Representatives for the coordinating framework rebellious frightening.
"Al-Hakim enjoys special esteem and prestige with the Saudi parties, and therefore he views the visit positively, as well as everything that pushes the Iraqi political process to stability, which is welcome," Makheif told Shafaq News.
He added, "We blame most of the leaders of the Arab countries who distanced themselves from what is going on in the country, while Iraq played major and unforgettable roles when those countries were going through various crises."
He pointed out that "to get out of the crisis of the current political scene requires concerted efforts to end the stalemate between the parties," expressing his hope that "these efforts will lead to tangible results in the near future."
For his part, the representative of the Progress Alliance, Faisal Al-Issawi, said that "the current political crisis in Iraq is an internal affair, and therefore the desired solutions must be national solutions emanating from the inside," at the same time ruling out that "Al-Hakim (Saudi Arabia) is calling for intervention."
Al-Issawi said, during an interview with Shafaq News Agency, that "Al-Hakim touched on the political crisis in Iraq, which may take place in the context of discussions with Saudi officials, about files of common interest between the two countries."
He pointed out that "there is an intense political movement from some actors in the political scene, to end the dispute between the framework and the current," stressing that "serious dialogues are underway between the parties, and it is hoped that in the coming days they will reach real solutions without the intervention of others."
Al-Issawi noted, "there is direct and indirect communication with Al-Sadr, to inform him of the outcomes of the inter-dialogues of all political parties, and all parties are motivated to end the political stalemate, end the state of tension and push matters towards resolution."
The three presidencies held a meeting yesterday, Wednesday, with the leaders of the Iraqi political forces, at the invitation of Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi, to discuss political developments in the country, in the presence of the representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in Iraq, Jenin Plasschaert.
Al-Hakim, who is visiting Saudi Arabia, attended the meeting of the Iraqi political forces, which was held yesterday, and witnessed the discussion of the crisis that Iraq is currently witnessing, and everyone agreed to continue the "national dialogue" in order to develop a legal and constitutional road map to address the current crisis.
