, today, Thursday, the Ministry of Interior revealed a statistic of the number of expelled and voluntarily departing foreign nationals for violating the terms of the residence law.
The Director of the Deportation and Deportation Department in the Directorate of Residence Affairs of the Ministry of Interior, the human rights brigadier general Ahmed Jumaa Al-Saadi, told the official news agency, followed by Mawazine News, that "the number of expelled and voluntarily departed foreigners who violated the residency conditions since the beginning of this year and until September 12 this year, has reached 22,813 violators in the capital, Baghdad, while the number of violators in other governorates reached more than 20 thousand violators.
Al-Saadi pointed out that "violators of foreign nationalities of the enforceable residence law No. 76 of 2017, are dealt with in accordance with the legal articles stipulated in the same law," noting that "the residence law provides for the deportation of the violating foreigner to the country to which he belongs exclusively."
He continued, "The arrest of violating foreigners is subject to the procedures taken against them, as some of them hold expired passports," noting that "dealing with holders of expired passports is through the issuance of a travel document to him through his country's embassy in Iraq, and if there is no embassy representing his country, it is done." Issuance of a laissez-passer for a foreigner in violation that is allowed to leave the territory of the Republic of Iraq only.
On the legality of the entry of foreigners through Kurdistan, Al-Saadi affirmed, "The border crossings in the Kurdistan region are considered official and any entry through them is legitimate, according to the agreement between the Federal Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Interior in the Kurdistan Region, in addition to recognizing the holder of residence identity in the Kurdistan region if it applies."
