Today, Wednesday, the President of the Republic, Abdel Latif Jamal Rashid, called on the international community to unite to address the severe changes in the climate.
A statement by the Presidency of the Republic stated, "President of the Republic, Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid, received today at Al-Salam Palace in Baghdad, the US ambassador to Iraq, Alina Romanowski," noting that "the US ambassador handed the President of the Republic a written message from the Special Presidential Envoy for Climate Affairs John Kerry. It is related to the “Cop 27” climate summit in Sharm El-Sheikh, which is scheduled to start early next month.
The letter indicated, according to the statement, “looking forward to President Abdul Latif Jamal Al-Rasheed attending the summit for joint action, and emphasizing the pacts concluded at the Glasgow Climate Summit and the goals of the Paris Climate Agreement,” expressing “the United States’ happiness to work with Iraq on the issue of climate alongside other partners from In order to find common points to achieve the desired goals in protecting the environment and ensuring the future of the earth and future generations.”
While the President of the Republic stressed that “the phenomenon of climate change has become a global crisis that everyone suffers from,” he called on “members of the international community to unite and unite in order to address severe climate changes and work hard to protect the environment.”
He pointed out that "Iraq is looking forward strongly to engaging in efforts to confront the phenomenon of climate change, as the country is one of the countries most affected by climate conditions and their effects on the environment, economy and life."
