The national expert in energy affairs and emissions determination, Kamal Hussein Latif, revealed that Iraq does not have accurate and updated statistics for the quantity and quality of greenhouse gases.
Latif said in a post on his Facebook page that "the last meeting of the Supreme National Committee for Determining and Reducing Emissions with the Ministry of Environment touched on many axes, the most important of which is Iraq's lack of accurate statistics for the quantity and quality of emissions."
And he indicated that "Iraq has previously entered into the Climate Framework Agreement and the Paris Agreement, through which it is supposed to reduce its emissions by 1-2 percent to reach 2030-2035."
He pointed out that "there is continuous work by the concerned authorities for the purpose of unifying efforts between the relevant sectors and in cooperation with the United Nations Development Program for the purpose of developing a plan that begins with statistics and determines emissions and ends with the mechanisms that will be used to reduce emissions by agreeing on an agreed national scenario."
