    Today, Saturday, the Ministry of Planning announced the implementation of government measures to support the poor segments at several levels, while confirming the preparation of a strategy to support these groups and improve incomes in the areas of health, housing, and income improvement.
    "The poverty rate in Iraq reached 25% of the total population in 2022," said the ministry's spokesman, Abdul Zahra al-Hindawi, in a press statement, noting that "this percentage increased compared to the years 2019 and 2020, when the percentage did not exceed 20%."
    He added, "The high poverty rate is due to several reasons, including the repercussions of the Corona pandemic during 2020 and 2021 and the cessation of economic activities, in addition to the economic crisis as a result of lowering oil prices and stopping projects," noting that "there are preparations in the Central Statistical Organization of the Ministry to start implementing the survey."     And he continued, "This survey would give new results and indicators on the poverty line and unemployment, as those results will be approved during the ministry's policies," noting that "planning is currently preparing to prepare a strategy to reduce the third paragraph in Iraq during the next five years."
    He pointed out that "this strategy will take into account the reality of the vulnerable and poor groups in society and provide them with the requirements for living in the basic areas of health, housing, education and income improvement," stressing that "the preparation of the strategy will be shared by a number of government agencies, the private sector and some specialized international companies." .
    He pointed out that "the government has taken a number of measures to support the vulnerable and the poor with regard to the level of income, which is represented by raising the salaries of those covered by social care and increasing the coverage capacity of poor families, in addition to improving the ration card, organizing its distribution on a monthly basis, and adding new foodstuffs to it," adding, " The measures also included the field of health to empower the poor through health insurance, as these measures will have a positive impact on the vulnerable and the poor.
