The Ministry of Planning announced a decrease in the poverty rate in the country to 22% of the population, while unemployment recorded 16%.
The ministry's spokesman, Abdul Zahra Al-Hindawi, said in a press statement: "Our expectations regarding poverty, and we are preparing to inform the socio-economic survey of the family soon, that the poverty rate has decreased, and this is based on our indicators."
He emphasized that "the percentages of those close to the poverty line also began to decline, as in 2007 and 2009 they constituted 7%, decreased in 2014 to 6%, and then decreased in 2017 and 2018 to 5%."
Al-Hindawi noted, "Expectations indicate a decline in poverty rates in Iraq during the last year."
