A member of the House of Representatives revealed a parliamentary movement to resolve the file of the provincial elections, especially since they are scheduled for next October.
Representative Muhammad Radhi said that there is a parliamentary movement in order to resolve the election file and amend its law, especially with regard to local elections, as the coming days will be decisive for the debate about the nature of the elections and candidacy, whether within one constituency or multiple constituencies.
He added that the government program set the month of October as the date for holding the provincial council elections, in order for the councils to return to supervising the governors and organizing work in each province.
And he indicated that there is an urgent need for the number of members of the provincial councils and even the House of Representatives to be according to the number of people in Iraq, and as determined by the law so that the number of representatives of three hundred and twenty-nine deputies is not commensurate with the increase in the number of Iraqis, which necessitates heading towards the population census to ensure representative representation in Parliament and provincial councils.
