The representative of Basra, Dhurgham al-Maliki, threatened, on Saturday, that the political forces in the province would go towards declaring the region if they were not fair in the budget, stressing that the province had suffered a lot over the past years.
Al-Maliki said in a press interview, which was seen by “Progress”, that “our resort to declaring the Basra region comes as a result of not giving sufficient allocations to the province in the 2023 budget.”
He added that "Basra has rights owed by the federal authority that it must provide," especially since 90% of the budget revenues are from the bounties of Basra.
He pointed out that "the people of Basra have not received their entitlements from the $5 project since its inception in 2010 until now," pointing out that the province has suffered a lot because of epidemic and cancerous diseases.
