Russia's permanent representative to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, Ramzan Abdul Latipov, confirmed today, Tuesday, that Moscow will support the decision to restore Damascus' membership in the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.
Abdulatipov said, in a statement, "I am sure that Syria's return to membership in the Organization of Islamic Cooperation is a long-awaited issue. Russia will support such a decision, and will provide the necessary assistance, if necessary."
Earlier, the official spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, said that Moscow welcomes the resumption of Syria's participation in the activities of the Arab League.
Ahmed Al-Sahhaf, a spokesman for the Iraqi Foreign Ministry, stated that the foreign ministers of the League of Arab States agreed, in an extraordinary meeting, in Cairo, to return Syria to the League.
It is noteworthy that Syria's membership in the Organization of Islamic Cooperation was suspended in 2012, by a decision of the heads of the state of the member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, at an emergency meeting held in Makkah Al-Mukarramah. Ended 25
